For a less modded day I’d go for the v8, if you have the money to go harder on mods get the B5 2.7. The scary problems are timing chain on the 4.2 and turbos on the 2.7, both 5-10k to fix, but the chains seem to be less common. Then again, if you can swing the 5-10k on mods, go for the B5 and get upgraded turbos. That seems incredibly high
