The full-frame EF 24–70mm f/4L IS USM ($1,399, street) is Canon’s first in this popular focal-length range to have an image stabilizer. Unveiled in late 2012, it boasts two expensive UD glass elements, an internal focusing design, a nonrotating barrel, and a reversible hood with a push-button locking mechanism.
Highlights. With an extended 24-70 mm zoom range, the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM delivers outstanding image quality and maintains consistent exposures throughout the range thanks to a fixed f/4 aperture. A separate macro position on the zoom ring lets you focus down to just 0.38 m with a max reproduction ratio of 0.7x life size.

This review follows the review of the EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, which we published in early November 2016. While that lens was pitched at hobbyists, the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens is a fully professional product with superior optics, a constant f/4 maximum aperture, a more solid body and dust- and moisture-proof sealing.

Last year, I had the opportunity to compare the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM against the Canon EF 24-70mm f/4 L IS USM. It won’t come as a shock that I loved the RF version as it produces crisp, sharp images, while letting in more light with its wider aperture. Great for outdoor and adventure photography.

Ease of Use. The RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM lens is officially the World's shortest and lightest 70-200mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/4 for 35mm full-frame cameras. It weighs in at a mere 695g and measures just 11.9cm in length. This makes it a little longer than a tin of baked beans and a little shorter than a can of beer!
The Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM is an amazingly fast, amazingly expensive 50mm prime lens for the new Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless camera system. Read our in-depth Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM review to find out if this ultra-fast lens can really be worth £2349 / $2299 Expert review of the Canon RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM mirrorless camera lens

The RF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM is designed to be the ultimate standard zoom lens for Canon's full-frame mirrorless camera system. This lens offers the versatility of a zoom combined with the fast maximum aperture of a quality prime - it's the only standard zoom lens that we've ever reviewed with a maximum f/2 aperture.

The Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4 L has healthy barrel distortion at 28mm, no visible distortion from 35mm to 50mm, and minor pincushion distortion at 70mm and 80mm. There is no in-camera correction on any camera. If any distortion bothers you, use my personal correction factors in Photoshop's lens correction filter.
The quality of the bokeh is exceptional, with super-smooth blur and particularly minimal longitudinal or ‘bokeh’ fringing. The aperture remains more well-rounded when stopping down a little, compared with Canon’s alternative EF f/1.2 and f/1.8 85mm lenses. Looking outside the Canon stable, the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM Canon mount lens is very worthwhile contender, out-scoring the EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM lens in sharpness and transmission, and being very close in the distortion tests too. It’s only really the vignetting and chromatic aberration tests where this lens falls down (a score of

Given its importance, Canon was quick to release one for R-mount - namely the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L IS, priced at around 2500EUR/2300USD. That's almost a 50% price hike compared to Canon's DSLR variant. Of course, these are very different designs and the RF lens adds the all-important image stabilizer on top. npDh.
